Description: A beautifully handcrafted Americana splint basket originally made to hold the long, elegant ladies dress gloves of the period. This rectangular form is masterfully woven with natural materials and showcases exceptional decorative work. Features fancy dyed ash splint ribbons on three sides, and thin vertical splints and braided sweetgrass surrounding the basket - accented with porcupine curls and small loop handles. The bottom is crafted in a checkerboard weave with wider splints for stability. A unique masterpiece of Americana history-perfect for any basketry or textile collection.

Condition: Used. Condition is commensurate with age and use. Some color fading to bows. Woven spikes are all intact although one point/curl on right side has a split on one side - still appears to be very strong. One hinged side of lid held on by a thin shaving is unraveled and separated from body. Other two shaving splints connecting the lid to body are intact. Braided sweetgrass on exterior top of lid and 3 sides are faded.
