Description:  Jaws will drop when this large 17 ½” – 18 ½” out of round diameter Munising bowl is displayed.  Munising Woodenware Factory was incorporated in 1911 in Munising, Michigan and was in business through 1955.  This dough bowl estimated from the late 1930’s to 1940's was machine-lathed and carved from a large, hardwood trunk.  Other than its size, it’s heavy and solid featuring wonderful, warm, aged medium to dark patina, age spots, chop marks and and 3 cracks which represents its character and originality.  On the bottom, it proudly carries the incised Munising mark.  Being one of Munising’s largest dough bowls made, this one is very special, won’t disappoint and extremely hard to find.

Condition: Previously owned - used.  Condition is consistent with age and use.  Heavy and strong with warm, medium to dark patina.  Age spots with light chop marks on the inside surface from normal use.  Nicks on lip of bowl.  There are three cracks present on the bottom of the bowl.  A 5 ¼” thin crack is present and shown above the Munising mark.  A portion of this crack does go through to the inside bottom of the bowl but does not jeopardize the strength or appearance and sits firm.  An additional 3 ¼” thin surface crack is above the 5 ¼” crack and a 1 3/4" below (as shown).  These two do not go through to the inside.  Bowl has been left untouched and not cleaned.  If cleaning is desired, it is recommended not to soak antique wooden bowls in water as it will cause damage to the surface.  Refer to directions on how to care and clean antique wooden dough bowls.
