Hand Forged Wrought Iron & Brass Ladle Dipper Rat Tail Hanger

Description:  During the Colonial times and later, often many American homes were known to prepare meals over a wood fire. Early utensils similar to this one were used for a variety of purposes and hung above the hearth, on a timber when not in use. Measuring just under 19 inches long, this ladle is a unique one, hand-crafted by a an early blacksmith. The raised, hammered brass bowl is attached to a long, forged flattened handle with four hammered copper rivets and an unusual, hand-crafted flattened iron strap.
