Product Description: This long-handled, wrought-iron spatula is an example of a utilitarian tool found in early American kitchens where cooking was centered around the open hearth. Featuring subtle, hand-forged details and irregularities, this spatula's 20-inch reach reflects the practical needs of Colonial cooks who worked close to intense heat. The blacksmith drew out the iron to create a slender shaft, and finishing it with a loop handle for hanging when not in use. The tapered miniature blade, measuring under 2 inches, is an intriguing detail - most collectors find desirable. The surface shows time-earned patina typical of early iron exposed to heat and daily handling. A special survivor with warm patina and rustic character.
