Early Bethlehem Steel Welfare Room Metal Hanging Basket Bethlehem PA

Regular price $95.00

Product Description:  Once known as United States' second largest steel producer and largest shipbuilding company, Bethlehem Steel Corporation was once the backbone of the community. Hanging baskets with hooks were once used in the Bethlehem Steel “Welfare Room” or as we would know it today as a Locker Room. Employees would use these baskets and hooks to store or hang their valuables, soaps or other personal belongings during their shift. Then the baskets would be hoisted to the ceiling and padlocked to numbered posts. Made of steel, this one in particular measures 15 ½ inches in height, a shallow basket with air holes on the bottom and four hooks. A special piece of Bethlehem history which now can be displayed and used for a new purpose.
