Antique Hand Carved Wooden Sugar Mold Dovetailed Sliding Lid Box Tramp Art
Description: This unique, hand-carved wooden sugar mold represents a remarkable example of early traditional sugar-making. It features two carved conical shape molds where raw sugar cane syrup was poured and allowed to harden into sugar cones. The double mold insert appears to have been crafted from four horizontal stacked 1 inch pieces of wood that the molds were carved within. It is encased and fixed inside a finely crafted rectangular box with dovetailed corners and a hole on one end - likely repurposed from a furniture drawer. Two side overhangs were added and secured with small and medium size nails to hold the removable sliding lid. As an outstanding example of early Tramp Art, it incorporates layered pieces of wood, salvage crate pieces and repurposed drawer, all adding historical intrigue and value to this one-of-a-kind collectible.

Condition: Previously owned – used. Condition is consistent with age and normal use. Due to age, patinated wood, some splits - more so on tip of overhang on box where lid slides in, sides and base (as shown). Still intact and strong. Sliding lid functions as crafted. Base shows some wear with a few broken wood pieces. Since it was crafted, it appears some type of adhesive or clear glue was used in a few small areas (as shown). This is minimal and not easily detected.
