Primitive Redware Crock Single Applied Handle Glazed Interior Pennsylvania
Description: An early redware crock with a shapely form and primitive appearance from the Pennsylvania region. It stands 7 ½” inches tall with a single applied handle, an unglazed worn exterior and glazed interior. This redware crock has a good side and a worn side. Color variations, patina and wear on the unglazed exterior which could be due to age and the environment it was stored or used in. Early redware crocks are difficult to find and often are damaged over the years due to the brittleness of the clay. This handled crock is a fine representation of the earlier, simple way of living and an interesting one if you love primitive decorating.

Condition: Previously owned – used. Over 170 years old, this crock is not perfect with color wear. One ½” chip on rim (as shown). Handle is in rough condition with a hairline in the top of the handle, although does not go through with no signs of weakness. Dark aged patina exterior with scuff marks, pits, staining and some small scratches in body. Due to age, small nicks/pits and glaze wear on interior.
