Vintage Wooden Hanging Wall Box with Leather Strap Hinged Lid Tombstone Backboard

Description: Wall boxes similar to this one were sometimes found hanging on kitchen walls, used for salt or other kitchen necessities. This wooden wall box is an older piece possibly from the earlier 1900s with a sealant applied a bit later to the front, sides, lid and backboard leaving the interior, base and back a bare wood. It's a decent size standing 12 inches tall with a 7 inch long slanted, lift-up lid, held on by an old leather strap. The tombstone shape backboard with a pierced hole is a generous size and can be hung on the wall or displayed on your table-top.

Condition:   Previously owned - used.  Condition is consistent with age. Functional wall box. Worn wood, scratches, staining and scrapes. There appears to be attempts to repair or fill in nail holes. A newer white paste or fill was used over 3 holes on the base and a spot on front (as shown). Cannot determine exactly what or why it was applied other than missing nails. There is also splattered areas on the inside. The box appears to be older and somewhat weathered surface although a sealant was used earlier at one point on exterior and underneath lid. Drips can be seen on the interior, bare wood.  Appears to be strong box. Leather strap used to function the lid is beginning to dry out. Overall good functional wall box.
