Vintage Spice Set of 8 in Original Wood Box THE SPICE CHEST Dove Frank Tea & Spice, Ohio

Description: It was in 1896 that Jacob Frank with his brothers Emil and Charles founded the Frank Tea and Spice Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. This original Spice Set of eight; Allspice, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Mustard, Nutmeg, Pepper and Salt are made of Milk Glass with each jar decorated with a blue Dutch tulip pattern, the name of the spice and "The Spice Chest" on the front. On the back of each jar are remnants of the original Dove brand label and two sides with an embossed motif. The lids feature a tulip decoration with the spice name. This set will arrive in the original wooden box with finger jointed corners along with the original paper label still intact on the underside of the lid, “The Spice Chest”.

Condition: Previously owned - used. Good condition. Condition is consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks in jars. Empty and have a clean interior. Some color wear and staining to graphics although still very clear and legible. The front blue graphics on jars are in good condition with light fading on certain pieces. Label wear on the back of each jar, leaving only remnants of brand advertising. Top graphics on each lid are still in good condition with some fading or wear. Lid for “Salt” is rusty with heavy patina and worn on exterior and interior. With this, it has compromised the quality of the lip of jar a bit with some areas of discoloration into the lip of glass jar (as shown). Box has a crack on base which goes through to interior although still strong with no movement in the wood. Sides secure it very well. Still a great set.
