19th Century Pennsylvania German Embroidered Show Towel 48" Initialed H R Dated 1833

Description: Discover an exquisite piece of 19th century American Folk Art textile-a Pennsylvania German community stitched embroidery long show towel from 1833. A 49 inch long textile with work originally completed in blue and turkey red on a cream homespun coarse weave fabric with a 1/8” hem on two long sides. The header is embroidered with initials H R, the date 1833 with a crown and hear along with a central bird tree motif balanced by a ball flower and crown cartouche. The bottom features an intricate lace work pattern with three embroidered diamonds, two centered in embroidered eight-point star motifs finished with a three to four inch self fringe. A charming PA Dutch heirloom ready for professional framing that captures the artistry and heritage of early American needlework.

Primary Material:  Cotton Thread, Homespun Coarse Weave Fabric

Origin: United States, Acquired in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania

CONDITION: Previously owned - used. Condition is commensurate with age. No tears in material. Some loose threads, missing-torn threads to bottom left fringe. Two pin holes, one on inside side of hanging tabs on top. Hanging tabs are worn and not recommended to use. All-over spotty staining and yellowing with areas of water stains. Creases are present from folds when stored. Turkey red thread color tone appears to have faded over time, giving a pinkish hue especially diamond motif at bottom.
