Antique English Pottery Pitcher Horse Riding Scene Horse Thumb Rest by Arthur Wood
Product Description: This highly decorative pottery pitcher by Arthur Wood, England stands 9 ½” tall with a scene in relief of gentlemen horseback riding chasing a draper through a town. The scene most likely depicts the fictional story of John Gilpin riding a runaway horse. Above this scene is detailed leaf, flower and scroll motifs around the pitcher, leaving very little undecorated surface. This beautiful English pitcher showcases wonderful earthy tones with a Majolica brown glossy glaze with added blue to the handle and areas creating a black tone with subtle blue highlights. Not your typical pottery pitcher with its nicely contoured mouth and a horse head thumb rest on the top of the handle.
