Primitive 19th Century Blue Spongeware Plate 9" Crazing Early Potters Repair

Primitive 19th Century Blue Spongeware Plate 9" Crazing Early Potters Repair

Sale price $45.00 Regular price $65.50

Description: An early 19th-century blue spongeware plate with the authentic, timeworn charm prized for primitive collecting and decorating. In round form it measures 9 ¼ inches in diameter, featuring a blue sponged decoration on the front and an undecorated back - common for early utilitarian pottery of the period. What makes this sample unique is a crude, potter’s repair made during the process. Likely the potter decorated the plate and then needed to repair a flaw or damage, resulting in a wonderfully primitive imperfection that adds individuality to the plate. A true survivor with a timeless, handmade presence.
