Primitive Hand Carved Wooden Sugar Mold Dovetailed Sliding Lid Box
Description: This exceptional hand-carved wooden sugar mold is a one-of-a-kind piece of history. It’s a special one featuring two carved conical shape molds which raw sugar cane syrup was once poured into, then hardened, forming a sugar cone shape. This double mold is housed within a crafted rectangular box with four dovetailed corners and a removable, slide-top lid. Small and medium size nails were also used on the box to attach the top overhangs for the lid and sides of the box to secure the mold in place. On the back end, there is a hole where a knob may have once been that suggests it was repurposed from a furniture drawer adding historical intrigue. A unique conversational piece with artisanal craftsmanship, making it a rare collectible for enthusiasts of traditional sugar-making tools.

Condition: Previously owned – used. Condition is consistent with age and normal use. Patina, Due to age, some splits in wood, more so on tip of overhang on box where lid slides in, sides and base. Still intact and strong. Sliding lid functions as it should. Base shows some wear with a few broken wood pieces. At some point later on, it appears some type of adhesive or clear glue was used in a few areas (as shown). Not easily detected. Please refer to photographs.
