Large Antique Blue and White Spongeware Decorated Stoneware Cuspidor Spittoon
Description: Larger Cuspidors/Spittoons were a familiar sight during the 19th and early 20th centuries in hotels, railroad stations, saloons, and other public buildings when chewing tobacco was widely used. This impressive example features a classic blue and white sponged decorated surface, substantial form and wonderful period presence. Measuring just over 6 inches in height, 11 inches wide, this hefty piece weighs just under 10 pounds and retains its original front clean-out opening. As expected being over 120 years old, it shows age-related wear and sadly some damage. While not perfect, it does add to the character and makes an interesting, unique home accent and conversational piece. By adding a faux candle and greens, this would make a wonderful centerpiece display.

Condition: Used. Over 120 years old. Not perfect. One 1 1/4“ chip on front edge and small nicks and chips around inside hole. Two hairlines from hole outwards to edge of lip. Discoloration and light wear on bottom base. Imperfections in the making. It does hold water with no leaks. Please refer to photographs as they are part of the description.
