Folk Art Oval Sgraffito Decorated Redware Pottery Bowl by Breininger Birds & Tulips 1990
Product Description: Lester Breininger, a 9th generation Pennsylvania German who began his first piece of redware in 1965, used Pennsylvania German techniques dating back to the 1700's. Beautifully crafted in earthy colors, this oval Sgraffito glazed bowl with crimped edges and green sponged highlights showcases two whimsical, folk art birds each perched on a tulip stem from a pot, looking back at a folky tulip all on a yellow background. Encircling the inner edge is an inspirational quote; “No bird soars too high if he soars without his own wings”. On the unglazed reversed side is signed Breininger Pottery Robesonia PA Nov. 16, 1990, Sunny & Mild.
