Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, Missing Wire Handle

Description:  Small covered crocks similar to this one were once used in kitchens for storing butter.  Today, they are popular as kitchen accents or used as planters.  This salt glazed stoneware crock from the earlier years features cobalt blue, stenciled lettering and decoration with an overglaze giving the surface a soft, light gray appearance.  The stoneware lid with fingertip knob sits down on the unglazed lip. There are two recessed holes where there once was a wire bail handle.
