19th century ABC Brown Transferware 8" Plate Polychrome Nations of the World Chinese
Product Description: This 19th century ABC transferware plate is part of the Nations of the World series titled; “Chinese” by Brownhills Pottery, Staffordshire, England. Children’s educational ceramic plates often were given as gifts to children, serving as an educational tool to teach the alphabet and knowledge about global countries, regions and cultures. This 8 inch plate features an ivory body with a brown transfer-printed alphabet alongside the central scene, enhanced with hand-colored polychrome details on the clothing in red, blue and yellow. Desirable among collectors, this plate bears the early English diamond-shaped registration mark dating this dish from 1883.

Condition: Previously owned - used. Condition is commensurate with age & use. Considered good. No chips or cracks. Crazing is present in areas. Light wear - rubbing to rim with some browning. When turned towards a light source, small scratches are present on face. Not easily seen. Back of plate: browning, scratches and ¼ inch round impression - indent to center back which appears to be from the making of the plate as it is glazed within the round impression.
