19th Century Brown Transferware 7 1/4" ABC Plate Nations of the World Wallachian England
Product Description: This 19th century ABC transferware plate is part of the “Nations of the World” series titled; “Wallachian” by Brownhills Pottery, Staffordshire, England. Children’s educational ceramic plates often were given as gifts to children, serving as an educational tool to teach the alphabet and knowledge about global countries, regions and cultures. This 7 1/4 inch plate features an ivory body with a brown transfer-printed alphabet alongside the central cartouche scene depicting a man from the Wallachia region, enhanced with hand-colored details in blue and brownish-yellow. Desirable among collectors, this plate bears the early English diamond-shaped registration mark dating this dish 1883.
