Description: Own a piece of English pottery history with this exquisite Ironstone Octagonal Transferware Platter by J. Clementson, crafted in Staffordshire, England during 1840s-1850s. Its a smaller size measuring 10 1/2" x 8", perfect if your short on space. This stunning example of the "Corea“ pattern showcases masterful black transfer print with a touch of purple or mulberry tone depicting a romantic Oriental architectural design. The central image depicts an Asian pagoda surrounded by trees, and pagodas in the background, framed by detailed floral cartouches and separated by long foliate scrolls.
On the reverse side, an early German inscription on a sticker, noting the name Maria Beiler likely a dedication or an ownership label which adds history and storytelling appeal. Smaller platters in this iconic pattern and color can be difficult to find, that coupled with a piece of personal history makes this a treasured find.
Where was this platter acquired? Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. During the 19th century and before, German dialect was common, primarily Pennsylvania Dutch – Pennsylvania German.

Condition: Previously owned – used. Condition is commensurate with age and use. Over 180 years old - considered very good condition. No chips or cracks. Rim is in good condition. Color is still vibrant. All-over crazing is present on front and back with a section of light discoloration in top-right corner on landscape scene. Some small scratches on face of platter that can only seen when tilted towards a light source. Discoloration and rubbing on backside.
