Description: This charming 19th century redware crock in a small size measuring 4 ¼ inches tall, once used as a utilitarian crock for storing and preserving homemade foods such as apple butter, pear butter or other preserves is now a stylish decorative piece. The interior and exterior glaze with an unglazed base with aged patina, imperfections and wear showcases the originality of this handcrafted crockery jar. Condition: Previously owned - used. Condition is commensurate with age and use. Nicks, chips and roughness to rim which includes a larger, early 1” x ¼” chip on rim which has worn most of that glaze. Two vertical 1 1/2 inch hairline cracks from rim. Still appears to be strong. Water tested for 15 min. and surprisingly holds water with no signs of exterior moisture or leaks. Crazing is present. Nicks and scratches to glaze on body. Glaze skips towards bottom. This crock may have once had a lid. No longer can be used for food use.
